ABOUT THE ARTIST
Derrick Johnson
Derrick Johnson, a self-taught artist born and raised in Baltimore, MD where he attended public schools Hamilton elementary, Calverton Junior High, Edmondson Senior High, and the Community College of Baltimore where he completed the Physical Therapist Assistant Program. Derrick then went on to serve as a Physical Therapist Assistant in hospitals and private practice.
Meanwhile a love for drawing and creating new projects was maturing and his love of handwork led to the creation of Stankin Studio. Stankin Studio is a collection of abstract hand crafted sculptures, home accents, wearable art, and funkiture. Derrick’s artwork has been seen at Baltimore venues such as Artscape, Sugarloaf, Columbia Art Fest, BZB Art Show, and various farmers markets. His work has also been featured in stores such as the Tomlinson collection, Art D'objects, Zyzyx, Repetez, and Mud and Metal. His odyssey continues today in Florida at the Saturday morning market, Suntan Art Center, Passage Grille, Gulfport art markets, Medera beach markets, and Leepa Radner University with additional artwork at Domain gallery in Gulfport.
Derrick’s work is a visual cornucopia of innovation, optical illusions, and iridescent illustrations. All fueled by a perpetual river of funk that runs through his imagination causing a cataclysmic implosion of creativity which oooozes into the atmosphere.
